Explore 2. Repeat Patterns and Visual Metaphors
Cureton Elementary/ Radial Pattern Design with Paper
Below: In progress radial pattern designs by students of Cureton Elementary Fifth Grade. There are 67 students participating in this project. The students were introduced to radial pattern design and the concept of visual vocabularies (see first two tabs under "Explore" section) . Students will complete designs in a follow up class. Students also will fill out form on what is the significance of their designs. The point of this project was to engage the students in thinking about what visually represents their community...what unique imagery do we see around us and how can we distill that into pattern? Later students will be using freeware Repper and Seamless to create patterns using digital tools. I wanted them to first truly understand how to create a radial design by hand before they engaged in the digital tools. Eventually they will transform photos into patterns using the freeware tools Repper and Sumopaint.
